The Nunes Memo
Today was the big day, the day Congressman Devon Nunes got to continue his role as Donald Trump's toadie. Good boy Devon, here's a fly. Nunes is Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, though he had to recuse himself from the Russia investigation because of his ethics violations in relation to that investigation. The "Memo" was released allegedly showing a violation of the people's trust by F.B.I. and Justice Department officials who sought surveillance of Carter Paige, Trump lackey and possible Russian intelligence asset. Four different F.I.S.A. judges authorized the surveillance of Paige.
Nunes has not read all of the intelligence files which form the basis of those F.I.S.A. warrants, crazy but it isn't necessary for Nunes' goal, which is to muddy the water surrounding the investigations of Donald Trump. The Memo is crafted to attempt to provide Trump a defense down the road or worse an excuse to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who lest we forget is Special Counsel Robert Mueller's boss.
It also serves to once again attack and dismiss Christopher Steele and the Steele Dossier which was compiled during the Presidential campaign on Trump. The Dossier contains a wide range of information on Trump including his potential involvement with Russia and Putin's web of government and private entities. Amid this raw data is the story that Russian intelligence has video of Trump engaging in sexual acts in a Russian hotel room, acts that include Trump being urinated on. Christopher Steele has been smeared by Congressional Republicans repeatedly in an effort to protect Trump. Steele is British and was an intelligence officer in MI6 for 22 years before retiring in 2009 and founding a private company. His record among western intelligence services, including the United States is impeccable. The assertion that he had a personal agenda of not wanting Trump elected is laughable.
Only Trump, the President, could give permission for the Memo to be released, but he did not release it himself. He bounced it back to Nunes to do that. He did that to protect himself from any backlashes to it's release. He can say Congress did it and he can throw Nunes under the bus if necessary.
The Democrats on the Intelligence Committee wanted to simultaneously release their own memo to balance this deliberately misleading document. That request was denied. The Republican Party has always been "the law enforcement" party and have never had problems with surveillance and now we have Speaker of the House Paul Ryan talking about civil liberties and transparency. Really Mr. Ryan? The only transparency would be the full release of all the Intelligence documentation surrounding this case, but you're not going to do that because it would prove there was no wrongdoing on the part of the F.B.I. and those officials involved. You don't want to do that because you have chosen to do anything you have to in order to protect the President of your party so that you can hopefully pass the legislative agenda of your wet dreams.
Nunes didn't write The Memo and if you think the Whitehouse didn't help create it, you're not thinking clearly.
Donald Trump doesn't act like an innocent man, he behaves like a man with something to hide. What is it?
