Clear As Mud
On Friday night a spokesman for Special Counsel Robert Mueller issued a written statement disputing some aspects of the Buzzfeed story on Michael Cohen. Specifically with regards as to documentation of Cohen being directed by Trump to lie to Congress.
I admire Robert Mueller's silence throughout his investigation. He has allowed the large number of indictments, prosecutions and court filings to speak for themselves.
Buzzfeed stands by their story and states they contacted the Special Counsel's office while working on the story and they declined to answer. They are asking that Mueller more clearly state what he is disputing. That seems highly unlikely.
Let's cut to the chase and address the elephant in the room, no not Republicans, I speak of course of Impeachment. Some zealots have been demanding this since January of 2017, that was a bit premature. If you have read my hundreds of political commentaries beginning in Kane's Realm and now Political Eclipse you will note that not once have I called for the impeachment of Donald Trump. I like facts and logic to be in full sync before reaching my conclusions of importance. Simply disliking a President or vehemently opposing their agenda does not merit supplanting the democratic institutions which put them in office. There is a long and clear set of facts concerning President Trump's violations of the emoluments clause and certainly his possible collusion, cooperation or however you wish to describe it to merit serious public investigation. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is doing a part of the Russian connection and other things arising thereof, but we're mostly in the dark there and may remain so. If our Congress had been functioning properly they would have held thorough and open hearings, including issuing subpoenas for documents and witnesses to appear. Unfortunately for the past two years the Republican controlled House and Senate did everything possible to block proper oversight and provide cover for the President. They abdicated their Constitutional duty.
The House of Representatives is now controlled by the Democrats and they must do their duty in full view of the public so that everyone can see the facts and draw better conclusions. If those facts clearly show impeachable offenses then they should do so. They do not have to wait for Mueller's report to do their job, they are two different things. Congress was investigating Nixon simultaneously to the Special Prosecutor, don't forget that. It was their oversight that got there first.
Don't shout for impeachment, shout for Congress to do it's Constitutional duty and represent we the people with calm reason and diligence. We are a Republic and a nation of laws, this is the way we preserve it.
